Bringing Your Pet to Singapore: A Guide for Pet Owners

Singapore is a pet-friendly country, but there are certain restrictions and regulations that pet owners need to be aware of before bringing their furry friends to the island nation. In this article, we will go over the requirements for bringing pets from Japan, France, and Korea to Singapore.

First, let's start with the general requirements for bringing a pet to Singapore. All pets entering Singapore must have a valid import permit, which can be obtained from the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) of Singapore. Additionally, pets must have a microchip for identification, and they must be vaccinated against rabies. Pets from Japan, France, and Korea must also meet the following requirements:

  • Japan: Pets must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate and must have been microchipped before the rabies vaccination.

  • France: Pets must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate and must have been microchipped before the rabies vaccination. They also need to have an EU health certificate issued by a veterinarian.

  • Korea: Pets must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate and must have been microchipped before the rabies vaccination.

It is important to note that Singapore has strict quarantine rules for pets entering the country. Pets from Japan, France, and Korea must undergo a 30-day quarantine period upon arrival in Singapore. The quarantine period for pets from Japan and France can be reduced to 15 days if they meet certain conditions.

In addition, it's important to note that there are specific breeds of dogs that are not allowed to be brought into Singapore. These breeds include the American Pit Bull Terrier, Brazilian Fila, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa, and Perro de Presa Canario.

It is also worth noting that pet owners will be responsible for paying for the costs of the quarantine period, which can be quite high. Therefore, it is important to budget accordingly and plan ahead before bringing your pet to Singapore. In conclusion, bringing your pet to Singapore is possible but requires planning and meeting certain requirements. It's important to be aware of the regulations and quarantine rules specific to the country of origin of your pet. Be sure to obtain the necessary import permit, make sure your pet is microchipped and vaccinated against rabies and be prepared for the quarantine period and associated costs.

With a little preparation, you and your furry friend can enjoy a new life together in Singapore.
